Cec Morrison and his orchestra perform the jazz standard ‘Dinah’, introduced as ‘an old number with a new rhythm’.

The appearance in a Cinesound newsreel represented an excellent promotional opportunity, with band member Frank Lundy showing off before the camera by playing two clarinets simultaneously.

Nevertheless, the title of the segment (‘Radio Rhythm Goes On the Air’) and Morrison announcing that his group is ‘broadcasting live from 2UW’, only underscores the fact that, during the 1930s, music was primarily performed and enjoyed via radio.
