On 9 March 2021, veteran oral history interviewer Graham Shirley sat down for a day with Di Drew to capture a fascinating discussion about Di’s career.

Di Drew is a pioneering and prolific director and producer of Australian television, film and theatre, as well as an outstanding educator.

TV directing highlights include the renowned First World War series 1915 (1982), Five Mile Creek (1983-1985), and Hill’s End (1988). Di has been the Head of Directing at the AFTRS and Head of Screen at NIDA.

In this short clip, Di describes the challenge of being a female director in the largely male domain of TV drama in Australia in the early 1980s.
