April at Arc Cinema

Arc Cinema Program at NFSA for April 2023

Canberra Screenings and Events
BY
 Katie Maling

A wide range of films and a special school holiday program await you this month at the NFSA.

Of An Age tells the story of a 17-year-old Serbian-born Australian amateur ballroom dancer who experiences a 24-hour whirlwind romance with a friend’s older brother. Stay after the film for a Q&A with actor Thom Green.

This school holidays, bring the kids to the NFSA for our Sharing the Archive Workshop. Go behind the scenes and experience working at the NFSA for a day with members of our curatorial and conservation teams. You will also receive a FREE ticket to a school holiday screening of your choice. Choose from our weekday holiday screenings of The Goonies, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, The Jungle Book, Tomorrow, When the War Began, Bridge to Terabithia and Pete’s Dragon

On 24 April, we're hosting a Q&A screening of the new film from Rolf de Heer (Ten Canoes, The Tracker). Filmed across stunning landscapes in South Australia and Tasmania, The Survival of Kindness uses allegory to analyse race and privilege. After the screening, director Rolf de Heer and lead actress Mwajemi Hussein will join us for a Q&A.

Following ANZAC Day, we are screening The Skin of Others – which tells the powerful story of Douglas Grant, a First Nations soldier who had largely been forgotten by history.

Plus our Doco of the Month is Island of the Hungry Ghosts; don't miss our continuing series Women Make Film, SCIENCE.ART.FILM. and Australian New Wave; and for Arc Out Loud, thrill to all the 90s action of Con Air and play Action Movie Bingo for your chance to win some great prizes. I mean, 'how can you live' without it?
