Our line-up this month kicks off with a very special exclusive – singer Tim Freedman and producer Rob Taylor of iconic Australian band The Whitlams discuss the creation, songs and themes of their classic album, Eternal Nightcap (1997). From the Hottest 100 favourite 'No Aphrodisiac' to the haunting 'Charlie' trilogy, hear the stories of the album straight from 2 of the people responsible for bringing it to life. And stick around because the monthly Vinyl Lounge will be spinning some amazing records for everyone to enjoy immediately afterwards.
August also sees the beginning of SCIENCE. ART. FILM. – free monthly screenings that look to uncover wacky, weird and wonderful facets of science and art in films. Presented in conjunction with the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS) and the ANU Humanities Research Centre, we start with Tim Burton’s alien invasion comedy Mars Attacks! (1996). Following the screening will be a discussion featuring Dr Anna-Sophie Jürgens (CPAS) and Dr Brad Tucker (CPAS, Mt Stromlo Observatory) about the popular perception of science in space movies.
This month, we also take a look at the competitive world of street dance with Keep Stepping (2022), featuring a Q&A with director Luke Cornish afterwards. Get ready to let the music lead you home with a Sunday matinee screening of joyous Australian classic Bran Nue Dae (2009) and don’t forget to demand the ‘finest wines available to humanity’ with a special quote-a-long screening of Withnail & I (1987) for August’s edition of Arc Out Loud.
Please help us keep everyone safe by reading and following our COVID-safety and visitor information and don’t forget to get your Club NFSA card when you arrive.
