February at Arc Cinema

Arc Cinema Program at the NFSA – February 2022

Canberra Screenings and Events
BY
 Matt Kemp

There’s something for every film fanatic with the fantastic screenings this February at Arc Cinema!

Love is in the air this month with 3 amazing films over Valentine’s weekend. See Shakespeare for the 90’s in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), the beauty and the heartbreak of Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! (2001) and for Galentine’s Day, enjoy the devilish The Witches of Eastwick (1987) with your best friends. Tickets for all 3 films include a drink on arrival and exclusive access to the Australians & Hollywood exhibition before the screenings.

We’ll also be looking at Ozploitation films and the influence they’ve had on cinema around the world. We begin with an Arc Out Loud screening of Mad Max documentary Beyond the Wasteland (2021), followed by your chance to see Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! (2008) and classic Ozploitation thrillers Next of Kin (1982) and Roadgames (1981).

In association with the ANU–The Canberra Times ‘Meet The Author’ series, iconic film critic David Stratton will be joining us to discuss his new book, David Stratton: My Favourite Movies and the films that he loves to watch again and again. After the discussion, we’ll be screening of one of his favourite films, Lorenzo’s Oil (1992). Copies of the book will be available to purchase on the day thanks to Harry Hartog Bookseller. Book signings will commence at 5pm.

Our Australians & Hollywood exhibition will also be open late on Friday nights during summer with screening and exhibition ticket bundles available, so leave plenty of time for a visit.

Please help us keep everyone safe by reading and following our COVID-safety and visitor information and don’t forget to get your Club NFSA card when you arrive.
