Join us in July for a month of innovative and diverse screen experiences, entertaining talks and performances, and a showcase of exceptional Australian filmmaking.

To celebrate NAIDOC Week (from July 4-11), we're focusing on stories by and about inspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. We are excited to present the new documentary My Name is Gulpilil – a film that leads us boldly through the extraordinary life of one of Australia's finest film actors. A special Q&A with director Molly Reynolds will follow the screening (9 July).

Complementing this fantastic film event, we have the documentary Another Country (also directed by Reynolds and narrated and guided by Gulpilil), which attempts to make sense of how modern Indigenous voices can exist between cultures (10 July).

And in collaboration with the National Gallery of Australia, we present a free screening of the short film Night Cries: A Rural Tragedy, Tracey Moffatt's brilliant reimagining of Charles Chauvel's 1955 film Jedda, followed by an episode of Art + Soul, written and narrated by Hetti Perkins and directed by Warwick Thornton. This episode profiles three influential Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists: Mervyn Bishop, Tommy McRae and Albert Namatjira (3 July).

Our July program also features the latest KinoKonzert instalment, Homo Sapiens, a live audiovisual performance bringing together the work of contemporary filmmaker Nikolaus Geyrhalter with experimental composer Heinz Riegler (29 July).

Can hummus help bring about peace? This message of understanding and tolerance through culinary communion is central to our Doco of the Month, Breaking Bread, which chronicles a unique food festival in Haifa, Israel (15 July).

For the winter school holidays, we're screening six recent family-friendly hits including:

— Cruella, the steampunk-inspired origin story behind one of Disney's most famous female anti-heroes (8 July) 

— Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon, the witty and refreshingly cheerful stop-motion animation about an alien arriving at a farm (1 July) 

— Trolls World Tour – a colourful animated feature, bound with messages of inclusion, which focuses on the epic quest of two trolls to unite – through music – the Troll realms (2 July). 

For our Saturday morning cartoon special, we have The Little Mermaid, Disney's beloved animated musical about a mermaid princess who longs to be human (3 July).

Our epic run through The Story of Film is up to the 1990s (17 July) and we're excited to screen Jane Campion's powerful classic The Piano in a 35mm print from our collection (17 July).

Continuing our series of interactive, 'Arc out loud' screenings, we're bringing you the fantasy cult classic Labyrinth, starring David Bowie, in a special Scratch 'n' Sniff presentation (16 July). And our Aussie Indies film this month is Angel of Mine, a gripping psychological thriller about two mothers whose lives are connected by a shocking truth (2 July).

Later in the month, we look at the boundary-pushing and irreverent films of Italian director Lina Wertmüller, focusing on three of her great works from the 1970s, Seven Beauties (30 July), Love and Anarchy (31 July) and The Seduction of Mimi (31 July). 

Then, for a complete change of flavour, come to 'Arnie fest' for two stand-out sci-fi action films, Terminator 2 (23 July) and Total Recall (23 July), both presented in recently restored 4K resolution.
