May at Arc Cinema

Arc Cinema Program at NFSA for May 2023

Canberra Screenings and Events

Eurovision comes to the NFSA in May! Hosted by Liverpool in the UK on behalf of 2022 winners Ukraine, this year’s theme is United by Music. Cheer on Australia’s entry – ‘Promise’ by Perth progressive metal band, Voyager. Play Eurovision Bingo and dress up for pop music’s biggest night of the year! Prizes will be awarded for best team outfit, so come representing your country of choice. Ticket price includes a glass of bubbles on arrival!

In May, we also explore a story of tenderness and turbulence in our Doco of the Month, Because We Have Each Other (2022). Chronicling the story of a neurodiverse family, join us for a documentary that has been five years in the making and stay after the screening for a Q&A with the filmmaker, Sari Braithwaite.

Meet author and actor Heather Mitchell, as she discusses her memoir Everything and Nothing with Bronwyn Parry, and shines an unflinching spotlight on her most formative memories. Paired with a screening of Palm Beach (2019), this event is not to be missed! Signed copies of Heather’s book will be available for purchase.

Beginning this month, Arc cinema presents a series of Friday night cult classics, hosted by Venus Mantrap – a local drag artist and culture warrior. We start with stylish 80s vamp classic The Hunger (1983), starring Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie and Susan Sarandon.

Come and watch Cate Blanchett in Tár (2022), a film about a renowned classical conductor whose life begins to spectacularly unravel. Bundle your screening of Tár with a visit to our exhibition Australians & Hollywood and save up to 15%!

For even more films screening this month at the NFSA, explore our May programming below and follow the links to book tickets!

Please help us keep everyone safe by reading and following our COVID-safety and visitor information and don’t forget to get your Club NFSA card when you arrive.
