Heath Ledger: A Life in Pictures was on display at the NFSA from 10 August 2018 until 10 February 2019.

The Heath Ledger: A Life in Pictures exhibition closes this coming Sunday 10 February 2019. Since it opened in August, more than 26,000 visitors have attended the exhibition, the first to be staged at the NFSA in several years.

Response to the exhibition has been overwhelmingly positive. Many visitors were familiar with Heath's most popular films, but knew little about his other artistic endeavours, so the exhibition fulfilled its mission to portray the man behind the camera.

The exhibition launched on 9 August 2018 with special guests Abbie Cornish, Heath's co-star and friend; musical protégé RW Grace; Heath Ledger Australians in Film scholarship recipient Ryan Corr; artist Vincent Fantauzzo, whose 2009 Heath Ledger portrait was one of the most popular items in the exhibition, and his wife, actress Asher Keddie. A comprehensive screening program at Arc cinema complemented the exhibition, including Heath's own filmography as well as other films that inspired him or were thematically related to his work. Many of the screenings included Q&As with people who worked with Heath throughout different stages of his career and recalled their experiences with him.

Special guests at screenings included photographer Tony Amos; David Elfick, producer of Heath's first film, Blackrock; Paul Barron, producer of the TV series Sweat; and production designer Stewart Burnside, who donated to the NFSA the original 'spear of destiny' wielded by Heath in the TV series Roar.
