Mike (Greg Rowe) and his father (Peter Cummins) go to warn Fingerbone Bill (David Gulpilil) that trouble is brewing.

While his father takes a catch of fish to sell in town, Mike (Greg Rowe) discovers some illegal hunters shooting birds.

Mike (Greg Rowe) is overjoyed when Mr Percival, his pet pelican, returns after being set free.

Mumble (voiced by Elijah Wood) has been expelled from the colony. His dancing upsets the elders, but he finds that Adelie penguins have a much more open attitude.

The family travel to Kundjabe to fish. The women bait the hooks with worms, while they talk about the different types of food available to them.

Kamarrang of the Bordoh clan introduces himself and the Nabarlek band to us. They come from Manmoyi, 200 kms from Oenpelli in Arnhem Land.

The Bordoh clan travel by tractor to the river.

After a long winter, Memphis (voiced by Hugh Jackman) prays for the return of the sun. As the thaw begins, the Emperor penguin eggs hatch all over the colony – except for Memphis’s egg.

A trip by the Tasmanian Sea Fisheries' Board patrol boat 'Allara', and its skipper, Tom Challenger, from Hobart to Storm Bay where a barracouta fishing fleet are at work.

The reef’s vibrant and abundant marine life is shown including coral, fish, seahorses and a stingray. Tourists walk amongst the rock pools in the shallows.
