The NFSA's Corrick Collection is a compilation of silent films collected by The Marvellous Corricks, a family of vaudeville-style entertainers who dazzled Australian audiences with music, comedy and film in the early 20th century. We finished a digital restoration of the films in 2021 and this month you can see them in all their glory – revitalised with the addition of new scores by composers from the ANU School of Music. Join us for this unique visual and aural experience on 24 September.
A wonderful gem of independent Australian filmmaking, Platon Theodoris’s The Lonely Spirits Variety Hour (2022) screens on 30 September. Co-written with lead actor Nitin Vengurlekar, you’re in for a wonderfully weird existential comedy with great performances by Nitin and Sabrina Chan D’Angelo. This screening is followed by a Q&A with the director and stars so, if you are interested in independent filmmaking, book in and join the conversation.
