• Hot on the heels of The Whitlams Eternal Nightcap, we're excited to announce that our Classic Australian Albums series will continue on 21 October at Arc Cinema with Regurgitator's 1997 album Unit. DON'T MISS Ben Ely, Quan Yeomans, Lachlan (Magoo) Goold and Paul Curtis as we delve into the creation of Unit. Tickets are $25/$20. 

• Also in October Music Month, we're bringing you a screening of Bruce Beresford's 1997 film Paradise Road on 30 October in Arc Cinema. Based on real events – and starring Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close and Frances McDormand – the film is about a group of women who start a choir while held prisoner by the Japanese during the Second World War. Tickets are $12/$10. 

• If mohawks, piercings, leather and studs are more your style, clear your calendar on 20 October for our Doco of the Month: Age of Rage - The Australian Punk Revolution by filmmaker Jennifer Ross, about the explosion of punk on the Australian music scene in the late 1970s and early 80s. The film features  music, photos, testimonials and archival footage – including content from the NFSA collection.

• Or if it's jazz that gets your toes tapping, we have released newly digitised and extremely rare footage of jazz legend Louis Armstrong. The great Satchmo performed in a television special on the Seven Network in 1965 during one of his 4 tours of Australia. Armstrong was the first black musician to tour Australia in 1954 since the Australian Musicians Union implemented a racist 'no coloured' rule in 1928. Armstrong became tremendously popular in Australia throughout the 1950s and 60s. 

• Vinyl lovers rejoice!  The October edition of Vinyl Lounge will kick off Music Month on 7 October in the NFSA Theatrette. Bring your favourite records and hear what’s spinning on the NFSA’s turntables this month. Tickets are just $5 and your contribution helps us to develop the NFSA's sound collection.
